Spray Foam

What are some of the advantages to Polyurethane Spray Foam Insulation?

THE BUILDING ENVELOPE
Spray foam insulation provides a complete, seamless building envelope. A building envelope provides protection against air, moisture, heat and cold. The seamless material virtually eliminates energy-wasting air filtration

VAPOR RETARDER
Spray foam insulation prevents condensation of water vapor inside wall or ceiling materials. When moisture is trapped it can cause damage to the wallboard and paint as well as structural deterioration.

AIR BARRIER
Spray foam insulation act as an air barrier, spray foam insulation provides insulation and air sealing in one step. This prevents outside air from coming in and inside air from moving out. Air leakage can also introduce moisture into the cavity, resulting in wet insulation and mold. Spray foam insulation prevents air leakage.

HIGHEST R VALUE
Spray foam insulation has the highest R-value per inch. The higher the R-value the greater the insulating power. Spray foam insulation allows for more insulation in a tighter space than conventional batt insulations. R-value of glass fiber batts is 3.5 per inch. Blown in cellulose is 4 per inch. Spray foam insulation has and R-value of of 7 (±)

VALUE
Spray foam insulation maintains its durable properties for the lifetime of your home. Spray foam insulation reduces construction cost by providing an air barrier, insulation and vapor barrier all in one product.

ENERGY SAVINGS
Spray foam insulation provides air sealing and R-value, which results in heating and cooling cost savings. Less fuel burned reduces the impact on the environment. Studies show that homes insulated with spray foam insulation use 20 to 40% less energy. Spray foam insulation is considered a “green product”

ENHANCED MOISTURE BARRIER AND CONDENSATION CONTROL
Controlling moisture is key to preventing mold grow. Spray foam insulation will not promote mold growth. Spray foam insulation offers no food value therefore it cannot support bacteria or fungal growth and it will not absorb water. Spray foam insulation is actually hydrophobic-it repels water. Spray foam insulation offers superior performance in resisting moisture transmission and condensation

STRUCTURAL STRENGTH
Spray foam insulation fully adheres to the sheathing and the studs, reinforcing both. This means it adds structural strength while adding very little weight.

IMPROVES INDOOR AIR QUALITY AND COMFORT
Spray foam insulation helps prevent uncontrolled outdoor air infiltration and the penetration of dust, pollen and other allergens. Spray foam insulation is the healthy choice for those who suffer from allergies, asthma or chemical sensitivity. Spray foam insulation is the smart choice for healthy living. Additionally, spray foam insulation can reduce noise transfer and sound penetration.

How does spray foam insulation compare with glass fiber batts and blownin cellulose?

Spray foam insulation adds strength and rigidity to your home. Glass fiber batts and blown in cellulose do not.

R-value of glass fiber batts is 3.5 per inch. Blown in cellulose is 4 per inch. Spray foam insulation has an R-value of 7 (±)

Glass fiber batts will not stop air leakage. Blown in cellulose will slow down air leakage. Spray foam insulation will stop air leakage.

Glass fiber batts will sag over time. Blown in cellulose will settle over time. This will leave sections un-insulated over time. Spray foam insulation completely adheres to wood and sheathing and is rigid. This will give your home a permanent air barrier to heat loss and air entry.

Glass fiber batts absorbs moisture. Spray foam insulation does not.

Spray Foam insulation, with less energy use and lower cost, pays for itself over time. Other types of insulation do not.
